About Salvador Agati

I am an electronic engineer, researcher, and technology professional whose career has evolved across electronics, computing, software engineering, connected systems, applied research, and healthcare technology.

My work is driven by a recurring engineering challenge: understanding how complex systems operate, how devices communicate, how information can be acquired and interpreted, and how hardware and software can be integrated into reliable solutions.

Engineering Across Generations of Technology

My professional path began with electronic systems, instrumentation, microprocessors, digital interfaces, telemetry, and communication technologies. Over time, that foundation expanded into software development, databases, networked applications, remote systems, and increasingly complex integration environments.

Rather than replacing one discipline with another, each technological generation added a new layer to my engineering perspective. Electronics led to embedded and connected systems; connected systems led to software and integration; applied computing led to research and intelligent interactive systems; and these experiences eventually converged in medical device connectivity, IoMT, and healthcare interoperability.

Where Hardware Meets Software

A recurring theme throughout my career has been working at the boundary between physical equipment and computational systems.

Understanding the Physical System

I approach connected equipment from an engineering perspective that includes electronics, physical interfaces, communication signals, device behavior, and the constraints imposed by the real system.

Understanding the Communication

Communication interfaces and protocols provide the bridge between equipment and software. Investigating that bridge often requires technical documentation, protocol analysis, communication tracing, message interpretation, and experimental validation.

Understanding the Data

Receiving bytes is only the beginning. The engineering problem includes identifying structures, interpreting values, understanding their context, and transforming raw communication into useful and reliable information.

Building the Integration

The final step is connecting the physical system to software architectures capable of acquiring, processing, validating, storing, and delivering information where it is needed.

Research & Applied Innovation

Research became another dimension of my engineering work through graduate studies in Applied Computing and Electrical Engineering. My academic work has focused on developing and evaluating interactive systems designed to address real-world problems rather than treating research and implementation as separate activities.

Serious Games & Health Education

My master’s research involved the design, development, and evaluation of a serious game for promoting healthy habits and supporting the prevention of obesity among adolescents.

Augmented Reality & Gamification

My doctoral research led to GRAAL, combining augmented reality and gamification for manual assembly and investigating the interaction between technology, operators, industrial processes, and performance.

Industrial Training

My postdoctoral research extends this work by investigating the evolution of GRAAL as a platform for industrial training and skill development.

Healthcare Technology & Interoperability

Healthcare technology brings together many of the disciplines that have shaped my career: electronics, communication interfaces, protocols, networking, software engineering, data interpretation, systems integration, and technical validation.

My work in this field focuses particularly on medical device connectivity, communication protocol analysis, real-time clinical data acquisition, IoMT, and the integration of medical equipment with software and healthcare information systems.

This involves working across multiple layers of the problem — from the physical connection and device-level communication to data interpretation, integration architectures, and higher-level interoperability.

Technical & Regulatory Responsibility

In addition to engineering and R&D activities, I serve as the company’s formally appointed Technical Responsible Professional before ANVISA for the applicable medical technology activities.

This technical responsibility is formally registered through an ART (Anotação de Responsabilidade Técnica), establishing professional engineering accountability within its defined scope.

The role adds a regulatory and professional responsibility dimension to my technical work in healthcare, connecting engineering decisions with quality, compliance, documentation, and the responsibilities associated with medical technology activities.

What Drives My Work

I am particularly interested in engineering problems that are not immediately obvious — systems that require investigation before they can be understood, communication that must be characterized before it can be integrated, and technologies that demand knowledge across more than one discipline.

Whether the challenge involves an electronic device, a communication protocol, a software architecture, an industrial system, or medical equipment, my approach is based on understanding the problem at its fundamental level, validating assumptions experimentally, and building solutions that connect technology to practical needs.

That combination of engineering, computing, research, and continuous learning continues to shape the way I approach new technologies and complex technical challenges.
